Registration is free. We will disseminate Zoom links later to those who pre-register there.

Main session presentations

We have chosen 20 talks for presentation as 3-minute flash talks followed by a one hour session in breakout rooms, where colleagues will have the opportunity to engage with you in more detailed fashion. Your talk will also be assigned its own channel on the GLOW Discord server, for further interaction over the course of the conference and potentially beyond.

There will be three flash talk sessions over the duration of the conference, one on each day (April 15, 16 and 17) from 1515 to 1645 CET. Please check carefully to see which session you have been assigned to. At 1515, the 30 minute session of flash talks will begin, with each paper being allowed 3 minutes. You may either simply share your screen and speak live, or send us a recording of a 3 minute presentation for us to play. While we support recorded talks, we would like to encourage live presentations, which may be more engaging. If you do choose to make a recording, please email us your recording by Wednesday April 14th. (If your video is large, you may need to email us a link to Dropbox or a private YouTube posting etc. from which we can download your video.)

The idea behind the 3-minute presentation is that it be a kind of advertisement for your research, and maybe a summary of the take home message, rather than a complete exposition of the data, argumentation or proposal specifics. After all seven presenters in the session have given their flash talks, room assistants will assign you to your own breakout room.

The breakout rooms will run for one hour, from 1545 to 1645. We will encourage audience participants to move to other breakout rooms at the 1605 and 1625 time marks, if they would like to do so. This is to allow presenters to plan a reasonable explanation of their research, including some engagement with the audience, of roughly 20 minutes duration. Audience members will also be able to move between rooms at any time, as well as stay longer in your session.

There will not be a “chair” in your breakout room, so we will ask presenters to help manage the conversations and participants in the room. Presenters will be made cohosts in their breakout rooms, so they can mute or remove disruptive participants if necessary, although we hope that such situations do not arise.

We strongly encourage you to prepare a handout or slides that you will use as a visual in your breakout room by sharing your screen. Please also email us your handout/slides which we will host on the program page.

Targeted collaborative debates (TCDs)

The time allotted for each debate is 1 hour, of which 40 minutes is designated for the presenters and 20 minutes is reserved for questions. You are free to organize those 40 minutes in any way you see fit.

All the TCDs will take place synchronously over Zoom and will be simultaneously live-streamed to a YouTube channel, and then will be saved and available for further asynchronous engagements. We hope all debate presenters agree for their debate to be recorded in this manner.

Your session will be assigned a Chair who will give you time checks and will field the questions from the Zoom audience during the question session. Your TCD will also be assigned its own Discord channel on the GLOW Discord server for continuing discussion.

We strongly suggest that you prepare one single handout or one deck of slides for your debate, with one presenter sharing their screen for the entire session duration. (Switching the source of screen sharing can be quite disruptive.) Please also email us your handout/slides which we will host on the program page.

Questions?

Please contact us directly via by email or even better on the GLOW Discord server, so that your question and answer can benefit others!

GLOW 44 will be held in a fully online format, with three sessions of main session presentations (with flash talks and breakout rooms) and six live debate presentations, over three days.
